To avoid clogs and unpleasant odors that would occupy your whole home, clean your garbage disposals regularly. Food particles and residue can slowly build up inside the disposal. When the kitchen produces a nasty smell, it’s a sure sign that it could use some thorough cleaning. We at Fast AZ are the leading installers and repairers of garbage disposals in Alabama. We also know a thing or two about cleaning them!

The good news, you don’t need anything special or expensive products. Common items in your kitchen can do the job. It’s advisable to clean your garbage disposal every week. Here are the household items and how you can use them to clean your garbage disposal.

What You Need:

Tongs
Lemon halves
Ice cubes
Dish Soap

Turn on the disposal. Carefully, do not touch the blades, using tong place the lemons in the unit and add ice cubes. Pour a cup of liquid dish soap and run cold water for about 30 seconds. Turn it off.

Other Combinations:

Ice & Rock Salt
A cup of rock salt and ice cubes can also come in handy. Turn the disposal on and run cold water. Turn it off after five minutes.

Baking Soda & Vinegar

A mixture of baking soda and vinegar can also do the trick. Sprinkle a half-cup of baking soda into the unit and a cup of vinegar. Wait for the mixture to bubble up. After five minutes, turn on the disposal. Run water to distribute the mixture to every corner of the unit.

Hot Water and Dish Soap

Another simple method of cleaning your garbage disposal involves hot water and dish soap. The technique is useful especially if you noticed an unpleasant smell coming out. Plug the disposal drain with the sink stopper.
Squirt some dish detergent to the sink and run hot water until it’s half full. As you remove the stopper, turn on the disposal and let the whole mixture drain into the unit.

Closing Remarks

Disposals cannot process hard seeds, peach stones, or bones. Ensure not to place hard foods like those down the sink. Another culprit, fibrous foods, wrap themselves around the blades, jamming them in the process. If you doubt, better throw that garbage into the bin. If this information reached you rather late, and your garbage disposal is not working correctly, give us a call.

When you own a home, it can be very expensive, and you don't want to hear that your pipe needs to be repaired. If that's the case, it's only a matter of how much it will cost. In the past, underground pipe repair required several days and a lot of digging, as well as significant property damage. Now, trenchless pipe repair allows plumbers to fix a pipe in less than a day with minimal digging. While this technique is becoming more common, many homeowners have questions. Here are some things to consider. Expenses up front It is also possible to choose a plumber more easily because traditional pipe repair is more common. A traditional pipe repair typically costs $50 to $250 per foot, not including the cost of repairing the property. In trenchless pipe repair, there are two methods available: Lateral Pipe Lining: This method uses an existing pipe, and adds an epoxy layer to cover cracks and irregularities in the pipe, creating a new pipe. The cost of lateral pipe lining can range from $80 to $250 per foot. Bursting: Using a pneumatic or hydraulic head, this method destroys the old pipe and replaces it with a new one. It is usually cheaper than lateral pipe lining, ranging between $60 and $200 per foot of pipe replaced. Traditional repair methods appear to be cheaper on paper, but they aren't always the most cost-effective. Uncovering hidden costs There are costs associated with traditional pipe repairs that are not included in the initial estimate. The cost of excavating the old pipe, for example, may not be included, or another contractor may be required. In addition, moving any heavier objects that are over the sewer line can be costly. In the end, even though the initial cost covers everything, it probably won't cover the cost of repairing a driveway or landscaping that is damaged. Homeowners often pay thousands of dollars to get their property back to the way it was. Trenchless repairs avoid these costs because they are minimally invasive. No ground is ripped up, and no additional work is required. When it comes to repairing a broken pipe, trenchless repairs are generally cheaper, more cost-effective, and easier to perform.
