Does your sink rattle with noise when someone turns on the faucet? This can happen to any sink that comprises of two separate basins connected to each other. This effect can become much worse if these basins are made of metal. Like a gong, the sound amplifies, resulting in sink noises. If your sink is made of denser material such as stone or porcelain, the noise will be absorbed. Why specifically two separate basin sinks? The area between the two acts as a spot where echo is created. The resulting sound is like a steel drum when water is hitting the base of the sink.

There are a few steps you can take to make your sink much quieter. The most effective way to do this is to fill up the empty areas with some expanding foam, and the process may be possible without removing your sink. However, if you can take out your sink, the procedure is much simpler.
Here are some steps you can follow to quieten your sink effectively.
Remove the Basin
You can tackle the sink from the bottom and fill the empty spaces with foam. However, if you want a job more well-done, you will need to remove your sink. Before you start, wear protective eyewear, gloves, and a mask, and make sure there is nothing beneath your sink. Turn off any electricity that goes to the sink or kitchen, and keep any electronics away from water. Disable the water supply to your kitchen, and as a precaution, make sure you know how to access your home’s main water shutoff valve. Disconnect the drain pipes and water supply lines from below your sink. Remove the caulk around the sink and then slowly lift out the basins.
Fill with Expanding Foam
If you have expanding foam, you’re ready. If not, purchase some from a hardware store. With expanding foam in hand, fill in all the empty gaps between the two basins. This helps remove echo and overall quietens the sink down when in use. Be wary and not put too much, or else you will have a hard time putting back your sink. Let it sit for an hour before placing it back. If you cannot access expanding foam, some insulation and glue will do the job. Glue the underside of your basin and add mass-loaded vinyl insulation around the sink.
Placing Your Sink Back
Once everything is fit snuggly, caulk your sink to keep the place watertight and stop the sink from vibrating. Wipe away any excess.
Reinstall Your Sink
Make sure to refit and reinstall everything you’ve undone. Connect the plumbing and water pipes and refit any electronics if needed. If done correctly, your sink will be much quieter than before. Enjoy your ‘brand-new’ quiet sink! Everyone in your home will surely enjoy being in the kitchen much more and will thank you for the peace that you’ve given them.
