Tips to Increase The Water Pressure of your Toilet & Flush - Our Guide
Many people pay no mind to their toilets until it starts acting up. One problem that you are sure to notice is a weak flush, especially when you are used to one flush taking care of the job. Less flush power means your toilet will get messier and require more frequent cleans. Chances are that you will be using more water as well. There’s no doubt that a toilet with a weak flush will be the bane of your bathroom breaks.
There are quite a few toilet designs out there. The one that is most commonly used, especially in households, however, is the one with a storage tank on the back. If you have this type of toilet, there are a few factors that might have taken a toll on your flush pressure.
Here are some helpful tips to try in order to increase the water pressureof your toilet’s flush:
Check the toilet flush holes
Remove the lid of the tank and check the string that connects the flushing handle to the flapper. When you pull the flushing handle down, the string lifts the flapper up, and the tank releases the water inside down to the toilet bowl. The refill tubeshould automatically allow water to fill the tank again. Check the water level if it is at the designated line. You will know that it is at the right level if it is about one inch below the overflow tube. If the water in the tank is too low, try adjusting the tank float until the water reaches a suitable level.
Check the water valve
You will find a pipe behind the storage tank that is attached to the floor or the wall. This pipe supplies water to the tank. There should be a water valve located along the pipe which is most likely placed near the floor or the wall. Make sure that the water valve is turned on. You can adjust the valve to your desired amount of pressure on water flow to the tank. Turn the valve on to its full extent for faster flushing.
Clean out the toilet bowl
First, you need to make sure the water tank supply is completely turned off before cleaning the toilet. Pour some bleach into the toilet bowl to make sure it is cleaned thoroughly. Let the bleach sit of about 15 to 20 minutes at most before flushing. This allows the bleach to make its way through the toilet complex, removing any built-up blockages along the way that are preventing your toilet from flushing properly.
You can turn the water supply back on shortly after to allow the water tank to refill. Keep flushing the toilet several times over the next 30 minutes to make sure the bleach has been washed off and the remaining blockage has been completely removed.
If your toilet still has a weak flush after you’ve tried all of these things, it may be about time that you call in a professional. Let an experienced plumber check your toilet to see if it still can be fixed or if you need to buy a new one. New designs might be costlier, but at least they can save you the inconvenience.
